uBlock Origin supports all versions of Windows from 7 to 10 and works as an extension for Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Opera, Firefox and Safari (up to version 13). The program has a simple and intuitive interface in Russian & English, which is suitable for both beginners and advanced users.
uBlock Origin allows you to choose which filters you want to use to block content. By default, it loads and applies the following filter lists:
- EasyList – list of ad servers
- Peter Lowe’s Ad server list – additional list of ad servers
- EasyPrivacy – list of tracking servers
- Malware domains – list of malicious domains
You can also select other filter lists as you wish, such as:
- Fanboy’s Enhanced Tracking List – extended list of tracking servers
- Dan Pollock’s hosts file – hosts file with ad and tracking blocking
- hpHosts’s Ad and tracking servers – another hosts file with ad and tracking blocking
- MVPS HOSTS – hosts file with blocking ads and malicious sites
- Spam404 – list of fraudulent sites
- And many others
Of course, the more filters are enabled, the higher the memory consumption. However, even after adding two additional lists from Fanboy and hpHosts, uBlock Origin still has lower memory consumption than other very popular blockers. Also keep in mind that selecting some of these additional lists may make websites more likely to break – especially those lists that are commonly used as hosts files.
