General features. CoolTerm is a free and open source serial port application developed by Roger Meier for Windows. It’s quite easy to use. The latest version of the program, 2.0.1.1150, has been scanned for viruses and malware and found to be safe.

CoolTerm allows you to exchange text and other data between connected serial ports of different devices such as servo controllers, robotics kits, GPS receivers, microcontrollers, etc. It also allows you to configure connection parameters such as baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, etc.

Program interface. CoolTerm has a minimalistic interface, which consists of one program window (contains a list of available serial ports and a toolbar for managing the connection), a program menu (contains various commands for working with the program), a terminal window (contains text and data transferred between serial ports) , settings windows (contain options for selecting connection parameters, displaying data, writing data to a file, etc.).
Serial port connection. To connect to a serial port in CoolTerm, you need to select the desired port from the list in the program window and press the Connect button or the F2 Key. You can then configure the connection settings using the Options button or the F3 Key. You can also save or load connection settings using the Save Options or Load Options buttons.
Data exchange between serial ports. To communicate between serial ports in CoolTerm, you need to enter text or data in a terminal window and press the Enter Key or the Send button to send the data to another port. You can also send data from a file using the Send File button or the F4 Key. You can also view data in text or hexadecimal format using the Text Mode or Hex Mode buttons.
